PowerPoint Guidelines/Tips

Trouble Free PowerPoint Presentation

My method of projecting your PowerPoint files starts by you providing me your files on floppy, CD, USB flash drive, or Zip Disk (250mb or 100MB). I load you files into a networked PC system wired remotely to a high output (2000 lumen) Infocus LCD projector. At the podium you have a wireless remote with a laser pointer and a regular mouse to advance your slides plus an 8” LCD monitor to view your slides. My loading of your files eliminates the fumbling of hooking up laptops at the podium plus avoiding the huge problem of incompatibilities and problems while maintaining your allotted presentation time and conference continuity.

I have both PC and MAC computers to load your files. So either platform is handled the same. I have Windows XP running PowerPoint 2003 and Mac OS 10 with PowerPoint 2004.

Keep your file size as small as possible. Huge files create all kinds of problems, such as slow display and transitions. If you have lots of photos make sure they are optimized for 1024x768 sizes. Most photos are quite large and it doesn’t do any good being any larger than 1024x768. If you files are quite large, check out www.NXPowerlite.com for Windows and download their program. It’s an awesome program and optimizes all your slides for a resolution you specify (use 1024x768). It will reduce your file size by 50+%!! Get it, it works, and it’s cheap! (Free, for the first 10 uses)

Videos in PowerPoint

This is the most troublesome area I run into. There are so many Codex’s out there (the compression logarithm that compresses digital video) so it’s impossible to have them all. See me as early as possible at the conference if you have any videos. Also, be sure to save your Video files, which are separate files, on your media as well. They do not save in PowerPoint automatically! And if you don’t have those files, you will have no video!
If we have any problems with your video I can run it separately in Windows Media Player or QuickTime as a back-up. Media Player 10 is available free on Microsoft’s website and will play almost anything. I also have QuickTime Pro for the MAC.

Speaker Help

I am available at all times on my cell phone 360-708-4226. Please feel free to contact me before the conference or anytime during the conference by calling my cell phone or my room in the Hotel for any help you may need with your presentation.

Bring your files to me in the main meeting room during any break before your session of papers begins. We will load your files, run them and you will be able to try the wireless advance/laser.
