Dear Chapter Members:
JOHN HUNTER, MD, FACS – VISITING PROFESSOR
Dr. John Hunter, Professor and Chairman of Surgery, Oregon Health Science
University will be the visiting professor at our annual meeting. Dr. Hunter
has been a pioneer in the field of laparoscopic surgery and has published
extensively on biliary and esophageal surgery. His address is entitled “Surgical
Education: Imagination and Innovation.”
FREDERICK GREENE, MD, FACS – CANCER
Dr. Frederick Greene, will be our visiting professor for the cancer symposium.
Dr. Greene is an editor for the 6th edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual.
Additionally, Dr. Greene’s clinical interest is in breast cancer and laparoscopic
colorectal surgery. An interactive case presentation panel will be part
of the cancer conference.
PRESIDENT OF ACS TO BE AT SUNRIVER
Dr. Richard Sabo, President of the American College of Surgeons will be
the College’s Representative at our annual meeting. Dr. Sabo will address
the meeting on Wednesday morning during the business session. Hear the latest
news on the national level and tell Dr. Sabo how the College is meeting
your needs.
HARKIN’S COMPETITION TUESDAY
The Harkin’s competition will take place on Tuesday, June 24th this year.
This will allow some additional time for this very important educational
event.
DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS
Deadline for submitting abstracts to Dr. Luna is April 15, 2003. Abstract
forms are available on the Website or from Dr. Luna. (1-509-747-5141 or

IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!
Deadline for making reservations at Sunriver is April 20th. After this
date, you will not receive our convention rate and the resort may be full.
This year, you will be charged for all the days you have reserved at the
Resort, even if you decide to leave early! Thus, plan to stay the entire
meeting. Reservations 800-547-3922.
FAMILY ACTIVITIES GALORE
Our annual meeting and Sunriver Resort offer unlimited family activities.
Monday evening’s Presidential Reception will be at the High Desert Museum.
All the exhibits at this fabulous museum and the animal displays will be
open for our entire evening. The golf tournament will be held Monday afternoon
on the Woodlands Golf Course, and the tennis tournament will be held at
the Resort on Tuesday afternoon.
In addition, the Resort offers bike trails, a water park, river rafting,
an exercise room and Sage Springs Club Spa.
