Young Surgeons Dinner a Success
by Douglas J. Schwartzentmber, MD, FACS Young Surgeons Committee Chair
The Young Surgeons Seventh Annual Dinner was held on Saturday, November 7, 1998, and was an overwhelming success. Nearly 200 young surgeons and their guests attended this gala at the Army and Navy Club in Washington, DC. Everyone who participated has my overwhelming appreciation.
We were honored to have as our guest speaker, Dr. Samuel A. Wells, Jr., Director of the American College of Surgeons. His address focused on the role of young surgeons in the College, and his vision for greater involvement of young surgeons in the activities of the College. He also challenged the young surgeons to be leaders in clinical trials and to support the recently formed American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOS-OG).
While the Young Surgeons Committee welcomes the Annual Dinner as a highlight of our programs, our commitment to the contiriuing medical education of the young surgeon remains the center of our attention.

Three of our more popular programs include: All-City Grand Rounds, presented twice a year to allow surgical residents to share interesting or unusual cases with their colleagues; the Basic Science Review Course which is designed to help surgical residents refresh their knowledge of basic science, and the Advanced Operative Strategies Course which is presented once a year to help chief surgical residents become more comfortable with advanced operations. For more information regarding the Young Surgeons' programs, please contact Denise Dean at the chapter's office, 202,/672-1505.
