Candidate and
Associate Society
The Candidate and Associate Society of the American College of
Surgeons (CAS-ACS) is an organization formed to benefit surgeons
of the future through involvement in activities of the College.
Last year, the CAS-ACS held a meeting to establish a forum for residents
and young surgeons.
We are pleased to announce that three of the Metropolitan Washington
Chapter's Candidate Group members were elected by the CAS Council
of Representatives to serve on various committees of the CAS-ACS.
Dr. Chandrasekhar Bob Basu is a secondyear categorical
general surgery resident at George Washington University Medical
Center. Dr. Basu was elected to serve a threeyear term on the
CAS Committee on Education.
Dr. Jeffrey R. Lukish is a pediatric surgery resident
at Children's National Medical Center. Dr. Lukish was elected
to serve a threeyear term on the Executive Committee.
Dr. Vikisha Fripp is a general surgery resident at Howard
University Hospital. Dr. Fripp was elected to serve as an altemate
on the Advisory Board Committee.
Congratulations to Doctors Basu, Lukish, and Fripp!
CAS-ACS Membership
Membership in the CAS-ACS is open to all surgical residents enrolled
in accredited graduate surgical education programs and to young
surgeons within five years of graduation from forTnal surgical training.
(If you are currently a member of the Candidate Group or Associate
Fellow category, you are automatically a member of the CAS-ACS.)
The mission of this new organization is to familiarize residents
and young surgeons in all specialties with the American College
of Surgeons and its programs and leadership; to provide an avenue
for participation in College affairs; to assist members in developing
and using their leadership skills in organized surgery; and to provide
opportunities for the opinions and concems of residents and young
surgeons to be heard by College leadership.
