Zehner Nominations Are Being Accepted

by Douglas Schwartzentruber, MD, FACS

The Metropolitan Washington Chapter currently is accepting nominations for the recipient of the 2002 Harry B. Zehner, Jr., Memorial Traveling Fellowship Award. The Washington Chapter presents this award annually to recognize the achievements of an outstanding surgical resident from one of the local training programs. The recipient is awarded a travel stipend, which he or she must use to visit another surgical facility, or training program to learn about new concepts in a surgical field.

Nominees of the award must be members of the College's Candidate Group and must be in at least the third postgraduate year of training. Nominees also must submit an application form signed by the program director, along with a letter of recommendation from the program director. The deadline for nominations is December 7, 2001.

As usual, the 2002 award will be presented during the chapter's annual business luncheon at All Surgeons Day. This year's annual meeting will take place on February 23, 2002, at the Bethesda Marriott Hotel.

The chapter has presented this award to many excellent surgical residents in the past, and we look forward to maintaining this tradition in 2002. If you would like to receive an application, please call Kay Sykes or Cheryl Spencer at (202)337-2701.
