by Stephen R. T Evans, MD, FA CS Forum Committee Chair
The Metropolitan Washington Chapter of the College and the Washington Academy of Surgery recently agreed to join forces to better serve the interests of surgeons and surgical residents in the District of Columbia. The first event to be sponsored by this new society will be the 1999 Surgical Residents' Competitive Forum, which is scheduled to convene at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, at the Cosmos Club. I am pleased to report that this year's Surgical Residents' Competitive Forum promises, as usual, to include several fascinating presentations by outstanding surgical residents training at local institutions. A total of 24 papers were submitted for the forum committee's review, and we were highly impressed not only with the quantity, but with the quality, of the entries. At press time, we were still in the process of selecting the winning papers. We plan to award monetary prizes to three authors of basic science papers and to two authors of clinical research papers. One of the clinical research awards will be presented by John Kirkpatrick, MD, FACS, Councillor for the Southeastem Surgical Society, on behalf of that organization. Invitations to the event have been disseminated. Please take the time fill out your response card and make every effort to attend the first Surgical Residents' Competitive Forum sponsored by the combined Metropolitan Washington Chapter/Washington Academy of Surgery. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ABOUT MWDC-ACS | | CALENDAR OF EVENTS | PUBLICATIONS | | CHAPTER OFFICERS | YOUNG SURGEONS COMMITTEE | |
