Understanding National Cancer Data Base Submission Requirements and EDITS

Course Overview

This presentation discusses the data requirements and the edits used by the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB). All edits are based on codes and coding instructions in the manuals used by registrars. The presentation describes where information about the edits can be obtained, how to install and run GenEDITS, and how to interpret the edit report. It also describes how edit results are used by the NCDB.

At the completion of this course, a viewer will:

  • Understand where NCDB submission edits come from
  • Understand how submission edits are used by the NCDB
  • Know how to run GenEDITS and interpret edit reports

Intended Audience

This program is intended for individuals responsible for data quality, data editing, and data submission including registrars, registry data quality managers, quality of cancer registry data coordinators, and cancer program staff interested in how edits work.
