Collaborative Staging: Colorectal Cancer

Course Overview

This presentation is intended to provide cancer registrars with an overview of staging criteria based on review by the CS Task Force and the CS Reliability Study and provide clarifications for the staging system.  Guidelines will be presented for assigning the CS data elements, the TNM map

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, a viewer will:

  • Understand the anatomic structures of the colorectal system and how they correlate to the Collaborative Staging System codes
  • Recognize the importance of the CS general rules and the role they play in the colorectal schema
  • Understand the difference between discontinuous tumor implants on organs in the abdominal cavity and direct extension or contiguous extension to those same abdominal cavity organs

Intended Audience

This program is intended for cancer registrars or those individuals interested in gaining a better understanding of the Collaborative Staging colorectal schema, and those using these data elements for quality and outcome studies.
