Course Overview
This presentation is intended to provide cancer registrars with an overview of staging criteria based on review by the CS Task Force and the CS Reliability Study. This session will discuss clarifications of the staging system. Guidelines will be presented for assigning the CS data elements, the TNM mapping, and the anatomic structures of the breast and its adjacent structures that are needed for accurate coding. Understanding these staging criteria are helpful for the registrar to assign the appropriate codes and when performing studies and analyzing data.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this course, a viewer will:
- Understand the anatomic structures of the breast and its adjacent structures and how they correlate to the Collaborative Staging system codes
- Recognize the importance of the CS general rules and the role they play in the breast schema
- Understand the difference between extensive skin involvement, inflammatory breast cancer, and local infiltration of dermal lymphatics
