Editing Newly-Abstracted Cases

Registrars should not have to spend large amounts of time cleaning data prior to submission. Make a practice of reviewing your data regularly (as individual cases are abstracted, daily, or weekly) using the standard NAACCR metafiles designed for hospital use.

The NAACCR standard edits form the backbone of the NCDB submission metafile, and are recommended for use when new cases are abstracted. The NAACCR edit set that is represented in nearly all NCDB edits is “Hosp: Vs12 COC Required Non Confid”.

If your software has the edit set “Hosp: Vs12 COC Required Non Confid” in it, you should use that for routine review. Otherwise, do the following to edit using GenEDITS Plus:

To download the most recent NAACCR standard metafile, go to:

http://www.naaccr.org/StandardsandRegistryOperations/VolumeIV.aspx

Extract the cases you want to edit from your registry database according to your software provider’s instructions.

Open GenEDITS Plus, go to the Metafile Selection tab, and select the configuration named “GEP_NAACCR_v12_0C_Hosp_NonConfid.ini” (choosing the name that corresponds to the metafile version name). Check the report file name and location, identify your input data file, and run GenEDITS Plus.
