2010 SAR Annual Update
With the release and implementation of the Cancer Program Standards 2009, Revised Edition, the Commission on Cancer (CoC) has established a Survey Application Record (SAR) Annual Update process for all CoC-accredited cancer programs. This facilitates the ongoing recording of cancer program activity and alleviates the need to assemble and enter information for previous years in preparation for the survey. The annual update process provides programs with a specified time period to record program activity and information from the last complete year for specific standards.
The CoC monitors several standards as part of the annual update process. This monitoring serves as a method to gather information on program activity so that summary comparison data can be made available to the programs.
At this time, we are requesting that your cancer program complete or update program activity and information in your facility or network's SAR for the following report and text fields within specified standards. These standards are identified as follows:
- Standard 3.3—Abstracting Timeliness (first table only)—2009
- Standard 5.2—Clinical Trial Accrual—2009
- Standard 7.1—Facility-based Education—2009 (two activities)
- The Cancer Liaison Physician Activity Report—2009
The annual update period is July 1–September 30.
Please note that programs that are scheduled for survey or have had their survey this year (2010) will NOT be required to participate in the annual update because this information is already being or already has been recorded as part of the survey preparation process.
Following completion of the annual update period, a “snapshot” of your facility or network's activity from the required standards will be taken and the information will be archived. The SAR will remain open for program use as a record-keeping tool to document program activity between surveys. For example, you will be able to enter information on each cancer committee meeting for Standard 2.4 immediately following the meeting.
Questions about the SAR or the annual update should be submitted by e-mail to SAR@facs.org. To assist us in providing high-quality customer service, the e-mail message should include your complete contact information (first and last name, facility or network name, facility or network identification number, city and state, and phone number).
Questions regarding your CoC Datalinks user ID and password should be submitted to CoCDatalinks@facs.org.
