2008 Surgical and Office Based Coding and Reimbursement (Advanced)

Who should attend? Surgeons and their staff with two years of solid coding experience.

Purpose: Building on principles discussed in the Introduction to CPT, ICD-9-CM, and Evaluation and Management Coding, this skills application course focuses on applying the coding principles to surgical scenarios. Lack of a modifier or use of the wrong modifier is the greatest reason for claims denials. This course addresses the modifiers that are important before, during, and after the surgical procedure. Next, attendees code cases and apply the most appropriate modifier for the case. Finally, participants  will learn how to review an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and the impact incorrect coding has on the accounts receivable. Note: Please bring your coding books to the workshop.

Benefit: At the conclusion of 2008 Surgical and Office Based Coding and Reimbursement (Advanced), participants will be able to ensure accurate reporting of surgical and non-surgical services around the global period, understand AMA and Medicare surgical package definitions, apply surgical modifiers in a series of complex clinical scenarios, and assess payer application of coding rules.
