HR 1233, Mitigating the Impact of Uncompensated Service and Time Act of 2007

Rep. Mary Bono (R-CA) introduced H.R. 1233, the Mitigating the Impact of Uncompensated Service and Time Act of 2007.  Introduced to help alleviate the financial burden placed on doctors who are federally mandated to provide emergency medical care, this legislation would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow physicians to partially offset the cost of providing uncompensated care that is required under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) by providing board certified physicians a deduction equal to the amount of the Medicare fee schedule payment.
