Assistants-at-Surgery Report
In cooperation with the surgical specialty societies, the College has compiled a report entitled Use of Physicians as Assistants at Surgery. For each surgical service listed in the American Medical Association's Physicians' Current Procedural Terminology, (CPT ™) 2002, the College report indicates whether a physician as an assistant at surgery is required "almost always," "some of the time," or "almost never." Several thousand copies of this report, now in its fourth edition, have been distributed to third-party payers, hospitals, federal officials, and other interested parties. The 2002 edition of the report can be obtained from the College at no charge or downloaded in PDF format (572K PDF).
Requests for copies of the study should be addressed to Ruth Shea at 312-202-5413, or via e-mail at rshea@facs.org.
