2009 Distinguished Philanthropist Award
This year’s luncheon featured the presentation of the 2009 Distinguished Philanthropist Award to Richard Reiling, MD, FACS, and Mrs. Elizabeth Reiling.
In addition to the Reilings’ significant personal contributions, Dr. Reiling has worked tirelessly to raise philanthropic support on behalf of the College. His service on the Committee on Development began in 1997, and during his tenure on the committee and with the ACS Foundation Board of Directors, over $16 million has been raised to advance numerous programs and initiatives at the ACS. Dr. Reiling has presented fundraising opportunities to Fellows at countless chapter and society meetings, connected corporations and organizations with the Foundation, and advanced the spirit of giving among his colleagues and friends.
Dr. Reiling is medical director at the Presbyterian Cancer Center in Charlotte, NC. A Fellow of the College since 1977, he has been a strong advocate for the College and the Foundation. Including his recent term as Second Vice-President of the ACS, Dr. Reiling has served as a Governor-at-Large and member of the Governors Committee on Ambulatory Surgical Care. In addition to his service on the Committee on Development, he has also served on the College’s Nominating Committee of the Fellows, Committee on Ethics, Member Services Liaison Committee, as a member of the Commission on Cancer, and as an ACS delegate to the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates. His distinctive service also includes serving the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, as its President, Chair of its Socioeconomic Committee, and Editor of the Ohio Chapter Newsletter. He was the recipient of the ACS Distinguished Service Award in 2004.
Dr. Reiling currently serves as Vice-Chair of the ACS Foundation. He and his wife reside in Charlotte, NC. |
