SKILLS-ORIENTED COURSES

SC 2 - MASTERING SURGICAL AND OFFICE-BASED CODING
Saturday, April 24 8:00-11:30 am and 1:00-4:30 pm
Chair: John T. Preskitt, Sr., MD, FACS, Dallas, TX
6 HOURS (2 sessions) FEE: $350

The objective of this course is to teach participants the finer points of appropriately reporting CPT codes for surgical services. This course will discuss CPT coding changes that are effective in 2004, when to apply modifiers to surgical procedures and office encounters, and how to correctly use the Evaluation and Management (E&M) codes for consultations, critical care services and prolonged services. The differences between the AMA's definition of the surgical package and Medicare's definition of the global surgical package will be examined, and instruction will be given on the use of Medicare's Physicians Fee Schedule and the information contained in the Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) forms.

At the conclusion of the advanced coding program, participants will be better able to appropri-ately report and receive reimbursement for the services provided to their patients. Surgeons and their staff with two years of solid coding experience may attend. Participants are required to bring their copy of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Coding, 2004 edition.
