About the Clinical Congress
The American College of Surgeons will present its 89th Clinical Congress, October 19-23, 2003, at McCormick Place, 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL. The event will feature 39 postgraduate courses, more than 350 hours of general and specialty sessions, and hundreds of scientific exhibits and technical exhibits from a wide variety of companies. The Surgical Forum, a three-day presentation featuring over 300 research-in-progress reports, is another highlight of the meeting. This year's Congress promises to be an outstanding event, with timely programs and sessions on topics such as: advances in the field of genomics, current and future state of patient safety, evidence-based surgery, the role of the surgeon in injury prevention, image-guided surgery, robotic-assisted surgery, and enhancing care to the patient through the use of handheld devices (PDAs). Prominent guest speakers include: Senator William H. Frist, MD, FACS, Republican Senate Majority Leader, Washington, DC; Steven A. Rosenberg, MD, Chief of Surgery at National Cancer Institute, and Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Washington, DC; Arthur Caplan, PhD, Chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and the Director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. The preliminary Clinical Congress program can now be searched online through the American College of Surgeons Web site. We will continue to post updated program information online throughout the summer and fall until the meeting begins.
